Uncertainly

Your hair!
Your hair!
I love your hair,
And it’s just not fair.

Your eyes!
Your eyes!
I love your eyes,
But I’ve nothing but sighs.

You!
You!
I’m in love with you,
And I don’t know what to do.

In Memory of a Feeling

November 25, 2009

The end of each day’s
When I miss you most.
Work is all done
And I’m on my way home
Ready to play
Or needing to say
“I love you”
To someone.
Anyone.
To hear them say it to me
Say it’s all OK
And I’ll see you soon lovely
When you get in.

From Across a Crowded Room

November 25, 2009

Swirls of silver smoke
cloud the space
between my hopes and yours,
they do not match.
And as I watch you linger
my hunger begins to burn.
When will you learn
that it’s wrong
to be as beautiful as you are
on this night,
in that dress,
which strips me of patience
without you even knowing.

Space

November 25, 2009

There is a space
Right now
A tiny, tiny space
Between my foot
And your thigh.
A tiny movement
Is all it would need
To cross it.
But such a leap that would be,
That I worry
What would you think of me?

Never happened (just)

Just do it
Please
Casually, just do it
It’s only a few inches
But it would change my world
If you were to move
And rest your head on my shoulder

Just do it
Go on
Casually, just do it
Move your hand
Just a few centimetres
And touch her
Gently, but convincingly on the arm

Just do it
For God’s sake
You two, just do it!
Just reach out
And hold each other’s hand
Lie in each other’s arms
And tell each other how you feel

4am, January.

The thought that the one you’ve so adored
Doesn’t want to kiss you anymore
Is a hard thought to bear at four
In the morning when its cold and rainy
At the window and you just long to stay
Near her for as long as possible and touch
Her bare arms and kiss her neck as much
As you can before she leaves forever
Leaving you all alone not knowing whether
You’ll ever see her again.
Then she’s up and gone and the pain
It starts to rise in you like a flood
Drowning forever all that was once good
